Dear Colleague:

This is the first announcement of the conference on “Current Issues for Transition Economies in the Broader Balkan Region”, after the change of dates. The conference will be held in the Greek cities of Thessaloniki (first day) and Xanthi (next two days) and is under the auspices of

   -    The Athenian Policy Forum (York University Canada)
        in cooperation with

        The Athens University of Economics & Business
   -    University of  Macedonia
        Department of Balkan, Slavic and Oriental Studies
   -    University of Thrace
        Department of International Economic Relations And Development
  -    With the cooperation of the South and East European Development 
        Center,
 
University of Thessaly

Theoretical, empirical, historical and position papers can be presented, grouped under the following main themes:

1.  Reconstruction / Stabilization                    3. General Economic Development
2. Access to and Relations with the EU
          4. Regional Cooperation

SUBMISSIONS: Participants are encouraged to submit a research paper. Please reply to this new call by October 31, 2001, enclosing an abstract or a summary of your paper to  both  addresses below (resubmission is required for those who have already answered the first call):

The proceedings of the conference will be published in a title under the imprint of the APF Press.  Hotel accommodation and meals will be covered by the host institutions. Limited funds are available  to cover travel expenses for the participants from the Balkan Countries.
